Brush fire in Pasco under control


Pasco County, Florida -- Pasco authorities have reopened the US 19 southbound lanes after it was temporarily closed due to smoke from a nearby brush fire. Gulf Way between Sea Pines and Old Dixie Highway has also been reopened.

Pasco Fire Rescue has contained what was described as a fast-moving brush fire in the area of US 19 and Arcola Avenue and US 19 and Sunnydale Drive.

The fire is mostly in a wooded area and, so far, has burned up to 20 acres. No reports of injuries and no reports of homes damaged in the fire.

Students evacuated after substance sprayed on bus


Brooksville, Florida -- Pasco Fire Rescue is responding to an incident at SR 52 and Pasco Trails Blvd. where someone sprayed an unknown substance on a school bus.

Students were evacuated from the bus and the Pasco County Sheriff's Office are investigating.

One dead overnight in Zephyrhills fire


Zephyrhills, FL-- An early morning duplex catches fire and leaves a woman dead.

In a press conference, Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco told 10 News that 27-year-old Tiffany Lorraine Milam died in the fire, only two feet from her front door.

Right now her boyfriend, 30-year-old Christopher Henry Peterson, is in custody and charged with violation of pretrial release.

Neighbors said Peterson and his girlfriend have a history of domestic violence incidents.

Proposed Pasco toll road a no-go


Pasco County, Florida -- It's a no-go for the proposed elevated toll road.

A private firm hoped to build the road connecting US-19 to US-301 over State Road 54. It was going to be privately built, privately funded, and privately maintained.

Pasco County Administrator Michele Baker said the county will continue to engage the public as it determines how to manage future congestion of the State Road 54 corridor.

Brush fire scares residents in Moon Lake neighborhood


Pasco County, Florida -- A warning for homeowners Wednesday night, the hot and dry weather is putting fire conditions high. A brush fire scared residents in a Moon Lake neighborhood Wednesday afternoon after it threatened nearly a dozen homes.

"When you come out and see flames this close to your house, you worry," says Marie Bass, who says her day turned frightening when all she could see was flames feet from her front door.

Couple accused of squatting in soldier's home.


Pasco County, Florida -- A couple is accused of living inside a soldier's home while he was serving the country. They have since been arrested for stealing electricity.

Julio Ortiz and Fatima Cardoso say they had a verbal agreement to live at the home with a friend of the soldier who was trusted to look after soldier's house while he was away.

Some local veterans organizations are helping to fix up the solider's home before he returns.


Former LA Fitness day care worker speaks out


Lutz, Florida -- A mother of two who wants to remain anonymous says she once worked at the LA Fitness at State Road 54 and Collier Parkway in Lutz. The woman says she worked in the day care, known as Kids Club, part time until she was fired for eating snacks on the job, since there was a concern that children in her care might be allergic to the items.
