"Art of Recycling" Art Competition | Arts & Culture
Pasco County -- Some very creative high school students will be winning some cash for creating art while "going green".
On Feb. 3, students from all over Pasco County will drop off original art examples such as paintings, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, wearable art and architecture that have an environmental theme and utilize 70% recycled materials.
The artwork is then put on display and the public can vote on the artwork beginning Feb. 6.
The public may vote for their favorite piece of art in the "People's Choice" for five days. The awards ceremony will be held on Thursday, Feb. 16 at 6 p.m. at the West Pasco Government Center commission chambers on Little Road.
The artwork is judged in categories such as: "Best use of material", "Best of show", and many others. The art will remain on display through March 2.
From there, the winning art pieces will be transfered to the District School Board of Pasco County where they will be displayed through March 28.
This is a joint effort between the Pasco County School Board, Pasco County Utilities, Pasco County Public Services and the Pasco Fine Arts Council. This event has gained local recognition by awarding over $4,000 in cash prizes.
Pasco County Communications Specialist, Ed Caum said, "It's really a great event and some of the things the kids come up with are just amazing!"
