Pasco startup gets funding

Pasco County, Florida -- Larry Vanderhoof is proof that a little bit of money can go a long way when it comes to starting a business.  His company, Statewide Blinds, became the seventh small business to receive a microloan from the Pasco Economic Development Council, Inc.  Statewide Blinds is a mobile company that installs new window treatments and provides ultrasonic blind cleaning and repairs around the State of Florida.

“The microloan has helped with the startup costs to launch the business,” Vanderhoof said. “I’ve purchased equipment, marketing materials, and our mobile unit is ready to go.”

Vanderhoof worked in the hospitality industry for many years as a consultant traveling to resorts around the United States. He wanted to pursue the dream of owning his own business and be able to stay mobile. Previously, he had experience with ultrasonic cleaning equipment and realized there weren’t many companies using this new technology in Florida.

Vanderhoof had a viable business idea coupled with years of experience but needed startup funding to make it happen. Within a few short months after applying for a microloan with Pasco EDC, his business became a reality.

“The majority of new jobs are created by small businesses,” said John Hagen, President/CEO of Pasco EDC. “In Pasco County, we are trying hard to reach out to new businesses and entrepreneurs and help them achieve their economic goals.  Through the microloan program, the Pasco Enterprise Network and our new business incubator in Dade City, business people can have three “power tools” at their disposal.”

Companies who need help obtaining non-traditional financing and are headquartered in Pasco County, or planning to locate in Pasco County, should consider applying for a microloan through Pasco EDC. Borrowers must show they have the experience and resources to be successful business operators. Please visit www.pascoedc.com for more information on how to apply.
