Land O' Lakes, Florida -- Leadership Pasco Class of 2013 is helping NAMI Pasco, a local chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, furnish its new base of operations in Land O’ Lakes.

Each year the current class of Leadership Pasco chooses a class project designed to positively impact an aspect of Pasco County. The class project requires a combination of financial contribution, sweat equity, and continuing commitment after the class graduates. The Leadership Pasco Class of 2013 wants to help NAMI Pasco by increasing its exposure and impact to the local community by raising funds to furnish its new base of operations.

NAMI Pasco has been serving Pasco County in somewhat of obscurity for the past 24 years. It is run out of the homes of dedicated individuals whose family or friends have been affected by mental illness. While NAMI Pasco receives no local, state, or national funding, it does have support from the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office and local government leaders.

“We are so humbled and blessed to have the Leadership Pasco Class of 2013 as our partners,” said Lieutenant Larry Engle of the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office and a NAMI Pasco board member.  “They are an answered prayer in a time of great need.”

Conveniently located on Land O’ Lakes Blvd., NAMI Pasco’s new base of operation is centrally located and will serve as a destination for those seeking information, guidance, and help for their issues related to mental illness, and as a teaching center for CIT (Crisis Intervention Training) for law enforcement, educators, and individuals.

“The impact to the local community will be tremendous,” said Nikki Alvarez-Sowles, Esq., Leadership Pasco Class of 2013 president and Chief Operations Officer for the Pasco County Clerk and Controller. “At a time when the issue of mental health has become a national conversation, NAMI Pasco will be a visible beacon of light and hope in our community for those seeking help and direction.”

The Leadership Pasco Class of 2013 will host its main fundraiser, The Taste of Pasco, on Saturday, May 11 at the Rotary Pavillion in Land O’ Lakes to help raise money for NAMI Pasco. If you would like to help or make a donation to this cause, please email Nikki Alvarez-Sowles at nalvarez@pascoclerk.com
