Sustainable business wins award

Pasco County, Florida -- The Earth Charter US awarded the Suncoast Co-op with the "2013 Sustainable Business Award" for the co-op's business practices that take care of people, the planet, and equitably build community wealth.

The co-op works with a diverse group of growers who are making jobs for themselves growing food on their land, creating cottage goods out of their homes, or otherwise providing goods or services for the online co-op market. All the food provided through the co-op is grown using organic methods and is free of chemical pesticides and fertilizers.

The co-op has contributed to the local food movement which is thriving in New Port Richey where many residents have converted lawns into edible landscaping.

In addition to the on-line market, the co-op participates in the

  • New Port Richey Fresh Fridays market Friday 5 p.m.- 9 p.m. at Railroad Square
  • Tasty Tuesdays market 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Tuesdays at the downtown NPR Library
  • Saturdays at the West Pasco Habitat for Humanity 4131 Madison street, New Port Richey, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.

The co-op is a worker-owned business, owned by the people who provide and use the services of the co-op. For $25 anyone can become a member/owner of the co-op and get involved by purchasing, growing, volunteering and attending the many social and educational events sponsored by the co-op.
