Police chase ends with arrests of home invasion suspects

Lutz, Florida -- Two men who got a surprise when they kicked in a door to a home and found the homeowner inside Monday morning.

Hillsborough County deputies say the two men, later identified as Zaki Grier and Jamar Sampson, kicked in the door of a home in the 17600 block of Willow Pond Drive around 9:15 a.m. and were spooked when they found the homeowner inside. The two men fled in a red Mustang that was spotted by deputies at the on-ramp of I-275 N at Bearss Avenue.

The men refused to stop and continued onto I-275 N and into Pasco County. With the help of the Hillsborough Sheriff's helicopter, the men were spotted again near the Ashley Furniture HomeStore in Wesley Chapel. The men then ditched the Mustang and took off on foot. The chopper continued to follow them as they tried to hide under the SR 56 overpass at I-75.

Grier, 22, and Sampson, 29, were arrested and deputies found jewelry on both, along with several other items, that did not come from this morning's burglary. Detectives are looking into other homes in the area that may have been robbed, as well as determining the owner of the Mustang.
