Lutz 6th graders plant marsh grass to help wildlife

Lutz, FL -- Students from Learning Gate Community School in Lutz went to the Terra Ceia Aquatic Preserve in Manatee County to plant marsh grass they grew.

The six graders used little trays with slots in them to plant seeds in them, and over the past year they started growing.

The project took place under the guidance of Tampa Bay Watch, an organization that partners with area schools to restore salt marsh ecosystems and help students to learn about the environment.

The marsh grass will help protect birds, fish and other wildlife from the erosive effects of tropical weather systems.
