Donate your electronics, a tree gets planted

Holiday, FL -- Florida E-Waste Recycling is proud to announce its support of the Arbor Day Foundation’s reforestation efforts. 

For every box of electronics equipment collected at a GreenSite Drop Off location, the company will donate trees to the Foundation.

Each GreenSite location will accept computers (towers and laptops), cell phones, printers, fax machines, cameras, camcorders, cameras, cassette players, CD/DVD players, modems, monitors, scanners, pagers, PDA wireless devices, radios, projectors, photocopiers, stereo receivers, speakers, telephone systems, UPS power protection and VCRs.  GreenSite does not accept televisions.

New Port Richey, Florida - The Parks and Recreation Department of New Port Richey will hold the second "America in Bloom" Planning Meeting on Monday, March 21 at 9:00 a.m. at the Recreation & Aquatic Center.

The "America in Bloom" project is a City-wide cleanup and beautification effort, and resident participation is requested and encouraged.

Residents can also volunteer for "River Clean-Up" on Saturday, April 16. Meet Elaine Smith, New Port Richey's Director of Parks and Recreation, at the Sims Park Boat Ramp at 8:00 a.m.

Prescribed burn in Hillsborough today

The Hillsborough County Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department will be conducting a prescribed burn today, March 7 at Brooker Creek Corridor Nature Preserve, 11009 Tarpon Springs Road in Odessa.  


The burn will last one day. The purpose of the burn is for pasture maintenance.

Lutz, FL -- Brooker Creek Headwaters Nature Preserve, located on 18102 Ramblewood Road in Lutz, is closed to the public due to wildfire.

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue, the Florida Division of Forestry and Parks, Recreation and Conservation personnel have been dealing with the wildfire. 

The preserve will remain closed until the site is declared safe for visitors. The cause of this wildfire is unknown at this time.

Tommytown Project completed in Pasco County

Pasco County, FL -- Residents living in north eastern Pasco County, are celebrating a safer, cleaner and more family-friendly community thanks to the U.S. Housing and Urban Development. 


The Tommytown redevelopment project started over a decade ago and has now been officially completed.


In a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday on 17th Street in Dade City, federal and community leaders came together to cap the project dubbed the largest U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development funded in the state of Florida. 


The county received more than $13 million in federal funds for road paving, installation of water and sewer lines, new sidewalks and a huge stormwater management project that included storm drains and retention ponds.
