Pasco landowners to learn about managing lakes, ponds

Land O'Lakes, FL -- The Pasco Alliance of Community Associations (PACA) will hold a meeting on cost-effective and proper management of community-owned lakes and ponds on Thursday, Jan. 12.

The public is invited to attend the meeting at 7 p.m. at the Land O’ Lakes Community Center, located at 5401 Land O’ Lakes Blvd. (US 41), three miles north of SR 54.

Tampa Electric donates solar array to Pasco County school

Dade City, FL -- Tampa Electric and the Florida Solar Energy Center (FSEC), a research institute of the University of Central Florida, recently completed the installation of a 10-kilowatt solar array at Centennial Middle School in Pasco County. The school, serving more than 650 students in the Dade City area, was selected as part of FSEC’s SunSmart Schools Emergency Shelter Program.

Dade City, Florida -- Pasco County wants residents to plan on recycling their Christmas trees after the holiday season has ended.

The county will have numerous different sites for tree disposal.

After the holidays, remove all tinsel, metal hooks and decorations from your tree and drop it off at one of the following locations during normal business hours:

New Port Richey treatment plant gets award

New Port Richey, Florida -- In recognition of its outstanding plant treatment operation, maintenance and compliance, the city made a big announcement.

The City of New Port Richey Wastewater Treatment Facility has been selected by the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to receive a 2011 Domestic Wastewater Plant Operations Excellence Award.

A ceremony will be held on Dec. 6 at 1 p.m. at the Department of Environmental Protection's Bob Martinez Center, located at 2600 Blair Stone Road in Tallahassee, at which time the award will be presented.

Enjoy guided nature hikes and kayaking, biking, birding, eco-cruises and educational programs. More than 70 activities will be offered throughout the weekend, from free to nominal charges, including Saturday evening bonfires, a drumming circle and star-gazing.
