Outlet mall to create 6,100 new jobs

Wesley Chapel, Florida -- Plans for the much anticipated Cypress Creek Town Center will likely be filed with Pasco County officials by the end of the summer, according to County Administrator John Gallagher.

But Gallagher says county leaders are already getting an idea of the size and scope of the project based on recent conversations with representatives of the mall's developer, Simon Property Group.

"Yesterday one of my staff members called them and they told him that within about 60 days they should have preliminary plans in here. I think my staff member's conjecture was they were trying to shoot for (a) 2013 opening but if they missed the Christmas season it would probably be the middle of 2014," Gallagher told 10 News.

Last month, Saks Fifth Avenue announced it would open one of its outlets, OFF 5TH in the proposed mall sometime in 2014.

Gallagher says it's his understanding the mall, which will feature outlet stores will include about 1-million square feet of retail and restaurant space.

Additionally he says once complete, the mall will create about 6,100 full and part-time jobs.

Gallagher says it's projected the shops will generate also nearly $24 million a year in sales and property taxes plus generate more than $1.5 million in revenue for the school board.

"It's probably the most exciting time for Pasco County since I've been county administrator and I've been here since 1982."
