Police: Health worker stabbed to death by client | News
DADE CITY, Florida - Dade City police say a 25-year-old health care worker was stabbed to death by one of her clients on Monday morning.
It happened at The Harbor apartment complex on Coleman Avenue just east of 21st Street. Jessica Coleman lives right across the street and said, "I saw the knife. He had it up like this chasing after her. I saw him stab her."
Coleman's aunt, Victoria Farkus, also saw what happened. She was washing dishes when she heard a woman screaming. Farkus said, "I keep telling myself, 'I wish I could have got to the door sooner' or maybe I should have tried to grab Lucious. But like I said, I was scared of him. I was really scared of him."
Dade City police say 25-year-old Stephanie Ross was delivering some paperwork to Lucious Smith for some type of medical service when it happened. They say the Harbor apartment complex is an independent living facility for those with mental illness.
Farkus said, "He just kept going with that knife, because I know he stabbed her many, many, many times."
Ross worked for Integra Health Management and was at Smith's apartment to help him when police say he appeared to snap.
Farkus said, "She came out of that apartment, he chased her out of that apartment."
She added that Ross came running towards her home screaming for help. "And I ran out the door and I saw Lucious chasing this young woman around our yard. Anyway, he grabbed her by the hair ... and they got outside in the road, and he was just stabbing her multiple times."
Farkus also said she tried to reason with Smith. "But when I was telling him to stop, all he said was, 'This is not a woman, this is a f-ing man, and he owes me money and he tried to rob me.' That's what he said."
Farkus said Smith went back to his apartment when it was over as if nothing ever happened, and police say they found him standing on his porch. He was bleeding. They took him to the hospital and then to jail.
