2 busted in Pasco, Hernando purse-napping spree | News
Spring Hill, Florida-- Two men are behind bars after officials linked them to a spree of purse-napping incidents that took place throughout Pasco and Hernando Counties.
According to reports, the first incident took place at a Spring Hill Walmart back on December 15, 2012.
The suspects, 22-year-old Joshua McWilliams and 26-year-old Jonathan Becude, scoped out the parking lot for a while before they preyed on their first target.
The woman they chose reportedly had a full shopping cart. Before she unloaded all of her bags into her trunk, she set her purse inside the car. Then, as she returned her shopping cart, one of the two men stole her purse from the car, hopped back into the passenger seat of his and sped off.
Fortunately, a witness heard the woman screaming, and took down a description of the vehicle, and the license plate number.
McWilliams and Becude struck again in the same location on January 2 and 3. This time, the men stole purses from shopping carts as woman loaded their cars, instead of taking them from the cars as women returned the carts.
After those incidents, Hernando deputies say they began working side-by-side with Pasco detectives- who had been responding to similar incidents in Pasco.
McWilliams and Becude were behind each of the crimes, and reportedly guilty of even more. Surveillance footage showed the two using the credit and debit cards from the stolen purses to make purchases.
Through the joint investigation, Hernando County detectives solved one Conveyance Burglary, two Grand Thefts, and one Dealing in Stolen Property.
Detectives in Pasco County were also able to solve five Grand Theft cases, two Robbery by Sudden Snatching, one Conveyance Burglary and one Petit Theft.
