School board members receive public outreach award

New Port Richey, Florida -- Pasco County and District School Board members received first place in the Public Education Category.

The received the award for their “Public Outreach in the 2015 Penny for Pasco Renewal” at the 21st Annual Future of the Region Awards luncheon.

Both the County and School District conducted public presentations, video informational segments, and held interviews with the media; while the County produced utility bill Inserts, Penny for Pasco Quick Facts, and sited Future Penny signs at strategic transportation corridor locations.

The Penny for Pasco Political Action Committee (PAC) was staffed with community representatives and leaders that reached out to the public with “Penny for Pasco” signs, a direct mail strategy, dedicated Penny website, Facebook page, and E-newsletters.  The success of this Public Outreach Campaign initiative is now being shared with other local governments (Charlotte County) trying to renew their local government infrastructure surtax.

“The Penny Renewal Campaign was an outstanding team effort that included two public agencies and a dedicated group of private business interests working together.  That team deserves this recognition for their outstanding efforts educating our citizens,” said Michele Baker, Chief Assistant County Administrator.  “Additionally, we would like to say thank you to the Pasco County citizens who welcomed us into their clubhouses and classrooms to speak and who ultimately voted yes to support this critical investment in our community.”
