The United States Human Society visits Pasco County Animal Services

Pasco County, Florida -- Representatives of the Humane Society (HSUS) of the United States visited Pasco County Animal Services on Tuesday, October 15.

The purpose of this visit was to share information on how to enhance customer service, animal behavior through enrichment, and discuss best practices for sheltering.

Twenty Pasco County Animal Services staff participated in a two hour session interacting with HSUS representatives and role playing designed to further develop customer service. Other topics that were covered during the visit included cleaning and feeding of animals and ensuring animals are removed from their kennels during the cleaning process to create less stress for the animal as well as for staff. The staff from HSUS also toured the facility and provided vital feedback. Ideas were shared of ways to increase animal enrichment (play time) and staff using everyday items such as paper towel tubes, pizza boxes, and additional toys for both cats and dogs.

Pasco County Animal Services Interim Manager Kevin Mallory stated “staff was very enthusiastic about what was shared and look forward to putting these ideas into practice now. This was a great learning experience and we benefited greatly from the visit.”
