"Vote in Honor of a Vet" program will take part in Great American Teach-In

Pasco County, Florida -- Pasco County Supervisor of Elections, Brian E. Corley, in conjunction with the District School Board of Pasco County, is proud to announce that 8 veterans will be participating in the "Vote in Honor of a Vet" program throughout county high schools next week during the Great American Teach-In.

The High School education program is designed to encourage young citizens to vote.  Veterans visit classrooms to share their personal stories in hopes of motivating students to "give back" to those who gave so much for our country.

As part of the program, students are provided with biographical information on the veterans, are asked to pledge to "Vote in Honor of a Vet," and are given commemorative dog tags to wear as a daily reminder of their veteran's sacrifice.  The underlying theme is that freedom requires responsibility.

"I implemented this program in Pasco County as a way to pay tribute to my grandfather who served his country during WWII in the United States Navy and my father who served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War," said Supervisor Corley.  "As a Pearl Harbor survivor, my grandfather shared many of his personal experiences that taught me early on that the rights and privileges this country enjoys should not be taken for granted."

More information on the "Vote in Honor of a Vet" program is available on-line at www.pascovotes.com.  Veterans willing to participate next year should submit a biography form available on-line, or contact Rachel at the elections office at (800) 851-8754.  Survivors of veterans are welcome to complete biographies on their behalf. Participating veterans are not required to speak in the classroom, but those who are willing should indicate that on their biography.
