Pasco Sheriff: ''We won!'' | News
New Port Richey, Florida - "We won!"
That was Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco's reaction to reporters Wednesday afternoon after getting word that three siblings wanted for shooting at a Bay area police officer and then allegedly robbing a bank in Georgia were in custody.
"We continually said if those three fugitives wanted to battle with law enforcement we would win that battle and that's what happened today," Nocco said.
Dylan, Ryan and Lee Grace Dougherty were arrested Wednesday morning following a high speed chase and shoot-out in Colorado. The trio had been the subject of a national manhunt after shooting at a Zephyrhills police officer last week.
"Today was a big relief on our agency," said Zephyrhills Police Chief David Sheris.
"We're happy about the outcome with no law enforcement or citizens getting hurt," he added.
Nocco praised law enforcement officers in Colorado for capturing the three siblings. Officials warned the trio was heavily armed and not afraid to use their weapons.
The sheriff also praised the media and public for helping to capture the siblings.
But Nocco again said how the story ended was always going to be up to the Doughertys. It just he insisted they were not going to win a shoot-out.
"So no matter where they were they were going to lose," the sheriff said.
Wednesday afternoon two Pasco County Sheriff's detectives left for Colorado to try and question the Doughertys.
