Deputies: 18-year-old murdered his grandmother

He's just a tall, skinny kid, but investigators say tall, skinny 18-year-old Brandon Machetto killed his grandmother, 74-year-old Sylvia Schmitt, stuffed her body into her SUV, and drove around with it for hours until deputies pulled him over.

"Inside we found Mrs. Schmitt, deceased," said Pasco County Sheriff, Chris Nocco.

Family friend Ron Hall taught Brandon martial arts for almost 8 years and said Brandon didn't start out as a troubled child.

"He did what you would tell him to do, he was never disrespectful," said Hall; but Hall says that all changed five years ago when Brandon was jumped and hit in the head with a brick.

"He was very nervous, very agitated, and the first time he got into trouble with his grandmother was because he wouldn't take his medication," said Hall.

On that occasion, Brandon was arrested for domestic violence.

Hall says the teenager's mother works full-time and has done the best she possibly could for Brandon, even switched his medication to no avail.

His grandmother was his last hope. She took him in, and paid the ultimate price.

"The brain injury that he received from being hit in the head I'm sure had a lot to do with it," said Hall.
