Pasco County, FL -- Pasco Sheriff Chris Nocco has announced he plans to formally file his paper work to seek election to the post he was appointed.

"Pasco County is facing the same issues as a large metropolitan county.  I believe we, the Sheriff's Office, are headed in the right direction to ensure the safety of our citizens," Nocco stated in his release to the media.

The following is a release from Sheriff Chris Nooco on his intention to run:

Since taking office, Sheriff Nocco has implemented Intelligent Led Policing. ILP is a law enforcement operational strategy that emphasizes being proactive in targeting criminals, sharing information with other law enforcement agencies, and partnering with our citizens through crime prevention programs to make our community safer. "By far, the prescription pill epidemic is our largest issue that is fueling crime and destroying families in our community. Utilizing ILP, we are making great strides arresting pill pushers and those committing crimes in our neighborhoods."

"We must effectively use every weapon in our arsenal to serve and protect our citizens, especially those most vulnerable -- our seniors and children," said Sheriff Nocco.

Along with a new philosophy in fighting crime, Sheriff Nocco has made the development of a positive relationship with his deputies and members a top priority.  "I believe in servant leadership, which is to support our deputies and members who put themselves in harm's way to protect you," stated Nocco. "We fight as one cohesive Sheriff's Office to ensure the peace of mind of our citizens; that their safety is our priority."

Sheriff Nocco says he has implemented a commitment to empower citizens.  "Utilizing crime prevention, school safety, and educational awareness programs, along with assistance from our faith based community, we are creating a partnership to make our citizens safer and provide our children positive opportunities for the future," Nocco said.

Since taking office, these are a few of the following accomplishments by the Pasco Sheriff's Office:

  • Unified the Pasco Sheriff's SWAT and TAC teams and New Port Richey SWAT team creating one cohesive unit creating efficiencies and effectiveness.
  • Developed an information and intelligence sharing network with all the law enforcement agencies in Pasco County.
  • Working with our faith based community to develop Celebrate Recovery which helps those fighting prescription pill and illegal narcotic addictions.
  • Enhanced the protection of our deputies through equipment and training.
  • Building more opportunities through youth in the Pasco Police Athletic League.
  • Established town hall meetings to listen to our citizens and respond to their concerns.
  • Unified the Agricultural and Marine unit into the Environmental Crimes Unit to enhance our abilities in protecting our agricultural community while ensuring safety on our waterways.

Sheriff Nocco has served in several law enforcement agencies as a front line officer/deputy including the Philadelphia Public School Police, Fairfax County (Virginia) Police Department, and the Broward Sheriff's Office.  Along with his time as a Captain and Major in the Pasco Sheriff's Office, Sheriff Nocco was previously the Chief of Staff for the Florida Highway Patrol.  As a front line officer, Sheriff Nocco was involved in many high profile incidents as a first responder to the attacks of 9/11, the Washington Sniper case, and numerous large scale protests in our nation's capitol.  He also served on specialty teams that were responsible for high risk warrant entries and critical incidents.

Along with his law enforcement experience, Sheriff Nocco has a strong understanding of economic development and transportation issues.  Having served as Deputy Chief of Staff to the Speaker of the Florida House, Marco Rubio, he understands the correlation that having a positive relationship with our businesses and creating a safe community enhances economic opportunity and prosperity.

As an Academic All American football player at the University of Delaware, Sheriff Nocco earned his bachelor's degree in criminal justice and master's in public administration.  He also earned a certificate in emergency management from Florida State University and is a graduate from the National Sheriffs' Institute.

Sheriff Nocco and his wife Bridget have three small children and are active in their church and youth sports.
