Five Pasco schools recognized as positive behavior support models

Pasco County, Florida -- Three Pasco County public schools earned gold and two earned bronze in the state 2012-2013 Positive Behavior Support: Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (PBS:MTSS) Model School program.

Crews Lake Middle (now K-8), Cypress Elementary, and Sunray Elementary schools were recognized as gold level winners. Gulfside and Schrader elementary schools earned bronze level awards.  Crews Lake previously earned the gold award.

Pasco County, Florida -- Out of Pasco’s 13 high schools earning a grade for 2013, the number of A schools doubled from 23 percent overall to 46 percent overall. 

Sixty-one percent of the schools scored an A or a B, and no school received a D or F.

Five schools increased a letter grade, with four of them moving from B to A.  Three schools maintained their grade and two schools lost a letter grade for not meeting adequate progress for at-risk students.

Pasco County, Florida -- The Early Learning Coalition of Pasco and Hernando Counties, Inc. has released its 2012-2013 Annual Report. In its cover letter, Executive Director James J. Farrelly said, “considering the national economy, the 2012-2013 year continued as a challenging one for our organization. With minimal increase in total revenue however, the Coalition served more School Readiness eligible children than the previous year.”

Pasco County, Florida -- The Pasco County School Board elected Alison Crumbley as School Board Chairman and Steve Luikart as School Board Vice-Chairman at their organization meeting today.  Crumbley, who served the last year as vice-chairman, replaces Cynthia Armstrong (District 3) as chairman.

"Vote in Honor of a Vet" program will take part in Great American Teach-In

Pasco County, Florida -- Pasco County Supervisor of Elections, Brian E. Corley, in conjunction with the District School Board of Pasco County, is proud to announce that 8 veterans will be participating in the "Vote in Honor of a Vet" program throughout county high schools next week during the Great American Teach-In.

The High School education program is designed to encourage young citizens to vote.  Veterans visit classrooms to share their personal stories in hopes of motivating students to "give back" to those who gave so much for our country.

Pasco County, Florida --  The District School Board of Pasco County voted unanimously today in favor of a resolution supporting the Common Core State Standards and urging the governor and Legislature to “remain steadfast in their support” for moving forward with implementation.

Eight grader elected to Students Working Against Tobacco youth

Pasco County, Florida -- Mykenzie Robertson, an 8th grade student at Charles S. Rushe Middle School, was elected to the Youth Advocacy Board (YAB) of the statewide Students Working Against Tobacco (SWAT) organization during a regional meeting held on September 14 in Auburndale. Only 12 students in Florida are elected to the YAB board each year to represent their region in the creation of SWAT campaigns and programs.
