Coalition to host back-to-school event

 

The Early Learning Coalition of Pasco and Hernando Counties, Inc. is hosting its 3rd annual “Eat Smart for a Healthy Start!” back-to-school event  on Aug. 7, 8 and 9 in three locations throughout Pasco and Hernando counties from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The first 100 children (aged birth to 8 years old) at each event will take home a free lunchbox filled with healthy snacks and back to school items, including a First Aid Kit from event sponsor, Walgreens.

Dade City, Florida -- Due to inclement weather, Pasco-Hernando Community College is closed tomorrow, June 25.

The school says normal operations are expected to resume on Tuesday, June 25.

Land O' Lakes student winners in nation's capital

Land O' Lakes, Florida -- Students from Countryside Montessori Charter in Land O' Lakes were recently honored during a trip to Washington D.C. celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Toshiba/NSTA ExploraVision program, the world's largest K-12 student science and technology competition.

The celebration kicked off May 31 with this year's top winners presenting their innovative ideas for future technologies at a Congressional Science Fair.

According to the school's website, the gator, originally launched back in the late 1980s is getting a makeover.

The front pond will be receiving a complete makeover thanks to the effors of some LOLHS alumni. A crew is taking it out of the pond and plans to refinish it and return it to the pond sometime during the fall of 2012.

Local school places 2nd in world's largest science & tech competition

Land O' Lakes, Florida -- Countryside Montessori Charter came in 2nd place in the 2012 Toshiba/NSTA ExploraVision Competition, the world's largest K-12 student science and technology competition.

This year, the program received 4,809 team projects that included 14,606 students from across the U.S. and Canada.

For the finals, eight national winners proposed new inventions and technologies that could make the future more environmentally-conscious, healthier and safer.

Saint Leo, Florida -- Saint Leo University has announced it will be streaming its commencement ceremonies being held at University Campus April 27-28 live via the Saint Leo University website.

The first commencement is scheduled for 7 p.m., Friday, April 27, for approximately 315 graduating students.

Preschool presents check to local foundation

Preschool presents check to local foundation

New Port Richey, Florida -- The Little Sunshine Preschool and Learning Center of New Port Richey recently presented a $1,200 check to the Foundation for Early Learning in Pasco and Hernando Counties, Inc.

Funds were raised during the school's first Spring Festival Charity Event on April 7. Fifty businesses sponsored the event where families enjoyed photos with Easter Bunny, an egg hunt, crafts, games and raffles.
