Primrose Schools is stepping up its fight against childhood obesity with its 2nd Annual Family Dance-off, benefiting Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

Primrose Schools invites families across the country to submit their 30-second dance videos at FamilyDanceoff.com to compete for cash prizes and a donation to their local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital.

“Dancing is a fun, easy way for families to fight the risk of obesity, enjoy physical activity and spend quality time together,” said Dr. Mary Zurn, vice president of education for Primrose Schools. “Dance not only helps even the youngest of children stay active and fit, it is a creative form of self-expression that builds their self-confidence and promotes social, emotional and motor development.”

At Primrose Schools nationwide, children learn healthy lifestyle habits through purposeful play and physical activity. The Family Dance-off is part of Primrose’s commitment to happy hearts and healthy bodies in each of its schools and communities.

Southwest Florida’s highest achieving science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) students will join their peers from around the state Thursday and Friday in Orlando to be honored during the newly revamped Sunshine State Scholars program.

The two-day awards and recruitment event celebrates the accomplishments of these elite students and provides a unique opportunity for Florida’s universities and colleges to recruit their talents.

The Scholars event started as a simple science and math competition in 1997 and has evolved into a program designed to recognize Florida’s top high school STEM students and recruit them to pursue their post secondary education in Florida – increasing the likelihood that they will join Florida’s future workforce.

Each school district selects and names one 11th grade scholar based on established criteria.
