Gulfside Elementary School to feed hungry students over break

Land O'Lakes, Florida -- For the third year, Gulfside Elementary will open its doors and go on the road to serve FREE lunches to kids 18 years old and younger beginning Thursday, December 26 through Monday, January 6, 2014, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Meals will include hamburgers, hotdogs, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, macaroni and cheese, fruit, vegetables, and milk.  Pack-A-Sacks and holiday food baskets also will be given to identified food-insecure families on the last day of school to help through the holiday.

Almost 90 percent of Gulfsideā€™s families qualify for free/reduced lunches (the highest percentage on record) and the school staff does not want any child to go hungry while school is closed for winter break.  Lunches also will be served at noon daily at the Weston Oaks Apartments during that same time period.

Volunteers are needed to serve food at both locations.

Last year, Gulfside served more than 100 lunches over the eight-day winter break.  The school is located at 2329 Anclote Blvd., Holiday.  Weston Oaks Apartments are located at 1251 Weston Oaks Dr., Holiday, off of Alternate 19, just south of the U.S. 19 and Alternate 19 intersection.

For more information, contact Gulfside Principal Chris Clayton at 727-774-6000 or 727-424-8159.
