Earth Day extravaganza

New Port Richey, Florida -- New Port Richey’s Environmental Committee will again organize and host one of the largest Earth Day Celebrations in the Springs Coast Watershed.

The event will occur in beautiful downtown New Port Richey in the courtyard between City Hall and the Public Library Saturday, April 20 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Cotee River Lions Paper Recycling

New Port Richey, Florida -- The Cotee River Lions Club invites the general public to recycle their newspapers, magazines, catalogs, office paper and shredded paper at the Cotee River Lions Handicapped and Braille Trail Park.

It is located at 8320 Plathe Road in New Port Richey. It is North of Trouble Creek Road and South of Massachusetts Avenue between Rowan and Little Roads.

Recycling is held every Sunday morning between the hours of 8 a.m. and noon. 

The next event is Sunday, April 14.

Prescribed burn planned for James E. Grey Preserve

Prescribed burn planned for James E. Grey Preserve

New Port Richey, Florida -- The Florida Forest Service and New Port Richey Fire Rescue are planning to conduct a 25 acre wildland fuels reduction burn (prescribed burn) within the James E. Grey Preserve on Wednesday, March 27.

This is a Wildfire Mitigation Project specifically targeting wildland fuels in close proximity to bordering communities where these fuels present a potential wildfire threat. This burn will be a carefully planned event and will only be conducted if the weather parameters are met.

Florida State Parks announces new, free mobile app

Florida-- Trees, lakes, trails, wildlife- they're all things that come to mind when thinking about Florida's parks. Techonology, smartphones and applications, howeverm are probably the last things to come to mind- until now!

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection's Park Services department has announced the launch of their new, free mobile application, which will serve as an interactive guide for users on the go at any of Florida's 171 parks, trails and historic sites.

Prescribed burn Tuesday in Northwest Hillsborough

Odessa, Florida -- Residents in northwest Hillsborough County may see dark columns of smoke Tuesday from a controlled burn off Gunn Highway.

Hillsborough County Parks and Recreation and Conservation Department is conducting the burn at Lake Dan Preserve in Odessa.

The burn will last one day and is prescribed for fuel reduction.
