New Port Richey, Florida -- Pasco EcoFest 2012 organizers are looking for sponsors for its family-friendly fall weekend event Nov. 9 - 11.

Sponsorship opportunities range from an exclusive Presenting Sponsor at $10,000 to Eco-Friends for $250. The deadline for sponsors is Oct. 15. Event coordinators are looking for green businesses or businesses who offer green products and services to partner with for this event.

Tampa Bay, Florida -- Although the Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) increased its operating budget by $4.5 million for the coming fiscal year, property owners will not pay a higher tax to the state agency responsible for flood control and surface and groundwater quality in the Tampa Bay area.

Tuesday night the Southwest Florida Water Management District Governing Board approved the 2012-13 fiscal year budget and millage (or tax) rate. The fiscal year starts Monday, Oct. 1.

New Port Richey, Florida -- Community volunteers stepped it up big time over the weekend of Sept. 15 for the annual Cotee River Clean-up.

The City reported 140 volunteers collected a half-ton of trash and debris in the City of New Port Richey. Overall, 15 of the designated clean-up sites reported over 14 tons of debris was collected by over, 1,300 volunteers throughout Pasco County.

New Port Richey, Florida -- Residents may see and smell smoke coming from the area of Starkey Wilderness Park Tuesday during a controlled burn.

The Southwest Florida Water Management District is conducting the burn on the Serenova Tract of Starkey Wilderness Park Preserve off SR 52 near the Suncoast Parkway.

Volunteers still needed for 2012 Coastal Cleanup Saturday

New Port Richey, Florida -- Pasco County is getting ready to take part in the annual International Coast Cleanup--the world's largest volunteer effort to help protect our ocean, lakes and rivers--and they need your help!

Each year, hundreds of thousands of volunteers from around the world spend a few hours removing trash and debris from beaches, lakes, and rivers and inland areas keeping track of every piece of trash they find. Ocean Conservancy uses that information to produce an annual country-by-country, state-by-state index of the problem of marine debris.

Elfers, Florida -- If you're ready to buy some great plants for your home, here's your chance.

The Elfers Centennial Garden Club Plant Sale is Saturday, Sept. 15 at 9 a.m.

The location is 5744 Moog Road in New Port Richey.  A large variety of plants ranging from perennials to veggie starts and herbs are available. There will also be trees, shrubs, tropicals and Florida natives.

Also Butterfly and Hummingbird plants will be there. The selection varies month to month depending on what members are growing at that time.

Pasco County, Florida -- The US Forest Service has recognized the outstanding achievements by the Florida Forest Service’s Withlacoochee Forestry Center and The Pasco County Fire Rescue Service by awarding them the 2012 State level Bronze Smokey Award.

The US Forest Service recognizes outstanding achievements in Wildfire prevention with annual award presentations in three categories; The Gold Smokey Award at the National level, The Silver award at the multi-state level and The Bronze Award for State level achievement.
