Tobacco Free meeting on mental health and smoking

Pasco County, Florida -- The Tobacco Free Partnership of Pasco County invites the public to attend its quarterly meeting on Thursday.

The event will focus on mental health and smoking. This meeting is open to anyone who is interested in addressing this topic and helping Pasco become tobacco free. For more information call (727) 861-5250 ext. 161. 

The event will take place on Thursday, August 15, 2013 from 3:00 p.m. -.5:00 p.m. at the Land O' Lakes Rasmussen Campus located at 18600 Fernview Street.

New Port Richey, Florida -- Relax at the end of the day with yoga!

The next Yoga happy hour will be held on Tuesday, August 13 at 6:30 p.m. at Simms Park. 

Participants are encouraged to bring yoga mats, blankets, blocks or any other items they require, and water. 

All levels of experience are welcome. 

Additional Yoga Happy Hour dates are September 10 and October 8.

Pasco County, Florida -- The Florida Department of Health in Pasco County emphasizes the importance of Pasco's residents and visitors protecting themselves against mosquito-borne diseases after notification of a horse testing positive for eastern equine encephalitis in central Pasco County.

"We continue to coordinate with Mosquito Control to increase spraying in the affected area." Said Mike Napier, County Health Officer.  "With all the recent rains residents are reminded to contribute to the effort by taking steps to prevent illness that comes from mosquitos."

Back to school health fair in New Port Richey

Pasco County, Florida -- There will be a Back to School Health Fair at Morton Plant North Bay Hospital's Medical Arts Building. 

The event is free for all K-12 students of Pasco County Schools and will include school/sports physicals, cardiac screenings for high school student athletes, immunizations and more. 

All students must have a parent or guardian present or have a signed permission slip to participate. All students age 18 or older must present a photo ID.

Pasco County, Florida -- The Florida Department of Health in Pasco County (DOH-Pasco) would like to announce that their Quit Smoking Support Group will no longer be the first and third Monday of every month from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Starting August 6 , 2013 it will be the first and third Tuesday of every month from 4:30pm-5:30pm. The location of these meeting will remain in the Education Center of the Little Road DOH-Pasco office. The address is 10841 Little Road, New Port Richey, FL 34654.

Pasco County, Florida -- State Surgeon General and Secretary of Health Dr. John Armstrong has established the Healthiest Weight initiative as a top priority for the Florida Department of Health.

Pasco County is ranked 46th in the state based on 69.1% of its adult population being overweight or obese.  Consistent with its 45th position rank related to health outcomes on the 2013 County Health Rankings, Mike Napier the County Health Officer in Pasco, wants to make the case for Pasco to move up the rank in both these areas.
