Pasco County, Florida -- Pasco County ranks 45th in the state in health outcomes as published in the 2013 Robert Wood Johnson's County Health Rankings Report.

The Department of Health in Pasco County in its continuing response to these poor numbers worked with community partners to launch a Community Health Improvement Process (CHIP). The purpose of the CHIP is to get local buy in to priorities the community can work on.  Actionable strategies were developed to improve public health in the areas of  (1) Health Care Access and (2) Chronic Disease.

Pasco County, Florida -- Gulfcoast North Area Health Education Center is partnering with Florida Department of Health in Pasco County to offer 2 FREE programs to anyone interested in quitting tobacco use!

The programs provide optional FREE nicotine replacement therapy including patches, lozenge or gum. It is sponsored by the Florida Department of Health.

The "Quit Smoking Now" program is a 6 week program that meets for one hour every Wednesday from July 9th to August 13th at 4:30.

Third annual SWAT Summit trains future leaders

New Port Richey - The third annual SWAT Leadership Summit was held on Saturday, June 22 at the James P. Gills Family YMCA in Trinity, Florida. SWAT, which stands for Students Working Against Tobacco, is Florida's statewide youth organization that works to achieve a tobacco-free future. SWAT youth do this by educating their peers about the harmful effects of tobacco use, aiding current tobacco users in their efforts to quit, and influencing local events and policy.

Pasco County, Florida -- Pasco County Animal Services building is closed after four dogs tested positive for Parvovirus. 

According to Dr. Suzanne Salichs, Assistant County Administrator for Public Services, staff  has been requested to be thorough in making every effort to evaluate and do everything possible to lower any risk.

It is likely the facility located at 19640 Dogpatch Lane in Land O' Lakes, will reopen on Tuesday, July 9th, pending no further outbreaks.

Zephyrhills, Florida -- Long -time gardener Stan DeFreitas is encouraging families to eat healthier by growing their own vegetables. 

DeFreitas will be sharing growing tips and helping children to plant their own vegetables at the Walmart Supercenter on Saturday, June 15. 

The event will feature a number of games, crafts and giveaways, as well as free veggie snacks. 

DeFreitas is a well-known gardening expert and says okra, squash and peppers grow very well in Florida.

Pasco County, Florida - Quitting is not always the best idea, unless its quitting a bad habit like smoking!

Now that a majority of businesses in the state are helping people who have quit or who live a smoke-free lifestyle by banning tobacco use, there is a local effort to make the county tobacco-free.
