Pasco wins The 9-Mile War against Zephyrhills 24-16

Zephyrhills, Florida -- Pasco against Zephyrhills football is known simply as The 9-Mile War. For more than 70 years these two schools, separated by only nine miles have faced off in one of the Bay area's most intense rivalries.

This year, the winner of the game also will claim the runner-up spot in Class 5A, District 6.

Pasco got on the board in the first quarter when Zack Gleaton, attempting to punt out of Zephyrhills own end zone, dropped the snap. Lane Stancil recovered the ball, and the Pirates lead 7-0.

Malik Johns named Player of the Week

Dade City, FL - Pasco Pirates wide receiver Malik Johns is the 10 News Sports Player of the Week.

Last Friday Johns had 275 all-purpose yards, scoring four TD's and successfully completed two 2-point conversion passes, to lead the Pirates (2-1) past Wesley Chapel 35-0.

Johns opened the game by returning the opening kickoff 90-yards untouched.  But that would be the only scoring in the first half.

In the third quarter, the senior came alive, catching touchdowns passes of 58 and 49-yards and rushing for a 12-yard score.

Sunlake stuns Pasco 17-6

Land O'Lakes, Fl -- The Sunlake Seahawks hosted the Pasco Pirates in a battle for Pasco County supremacy.

The Seahawks got on the board in the first quarter on a Logan Wolfe 16-yard touchdown run.

The Pirates answered when Malik John's returned the kickoff 95 yards and a shootout appeared to be in the works.

But Sunlake's defense was outstanding, holding the usually strong Pasco running game to only 33 yards.

Pasco County, Florida -- Attention all Pasco County elementary school students- there is a conservation poster contest!

This is for students who CARE about the environement. CARE stands for conserve and reduce energy. The winning poster design will be used throughout the district to promote the conservation campaign.

Pasco's Brandon Ray Player of the Week

Dade City, FL - Pasco High School's Brandon Ray is the Southern Ford Dealers Player of the Week.

The sophomore kicker, punter, cornerback and wide receiver rarely comes off the field.

Ray consistently put his kickoffs into the endzone, eliminating any chance of a long runback.   He also was a perfect 7-for-7 on extra points, boomed a 50-yard punt and kicked a 42-yard field goal in the first half.

Pasco runs past Eastside 52-0

Dade City, Fl - In the Class 5A region semifinal game against the Gainesville Eastside Rams, the Pasco Pirates offense did what they've done all season, score early and often.   

On the game's second play from scrimmage, David Emmanuel burst up the middle for a 53-yard touchdown.  

The Pasco's defense also did what they do best, keep teams out of the endzone and create turnovers.

Grant's 5 TD's lead Pasco past Zephyrhills 56-17

Dade City, Fl - It was the 55th meeting of what is called the 9-Mile War, with the Pasco Pirates running past the Zephyrhills Bulldogs 56-17, winning the Class 5A-District 6 title.

Actually it was the third week of the Janarion Grant show.   Grant scored five touchdowns in the game and now has 11 in the three games since his return from a preseason injury.

Grant put Pasco (9-0, 7-0) on the board on their first play from scrimmage, with a dazling 29-yard touchdown.
