Pasco EDC releases survey to the community on the Hacienda Hotel

New Port Richey, Florida -- The Pasco Economic Development Council, Inc. is conducting a survey of New Port Richey residents and businesses to find out what the community would like to see happen with the Hacienda Hotel as it is restored.

“Now that two clean-up days for the Hacienda Hotel have been completed, many people have been wondering what the Hacienda Hotel will be used for in the future,” said John Hagen, Pasco EDC President/CEO.  “This survey will help gather important information to guide the City in its decision.”

Over 400 volunteers recently gathered for two community clean-up days at the Hacienda Hotel. Residents, City staff and members of the City Council all pitched in to clean-up, scrape paint, dig irrigation lines, remove broken glass, and paint the walls and fences of this national historic landmark.

“We’re looking forward to all of the ideas the citizens have about different uses for the Hacienda Hotel,” said City of New Port Richey Councilman Bill Phillips.

Built in 1920, the Hacienda Hotel was originally known as a "Bit of Old Spain Amid the Palms" and was visited by some of the most famous living celebrities of the 1920s including silent film stars Thomas Meighan, Gloria Swanson, and baseball legend Babe Ruth. Located at 5621 Main Street, the Hacienda was used as a hotel for many years before it became an assisted living facility, and since 2006 the hotel has been vacant.

The Pasco EDC survey link will be distributed through the City of New Port Richey utility bills to over 10,500 customers, the West Pasco Chamber of Commerce, Greater New Port Richey Main Street members, and the individuals who participated in the clean-up days. Answers to the short survey will be kept confidential; however, individuals can add contact information if they would like to be kept informed of the progress and receive a copy of the survey results.
