Voluntary vets needed for adoption center

Land O' Lakes, FL - A shortage of veterinarians in Pasco County has prompted the county to recruit new veterinarian volunteers to help out a new adoption facility in Land O' Lakes.

For years, generous veterinarians have donated their time and talent to the shelter.

Due to construction at the Animal Services property and the transition from the old surgical facility to the new facility, the program was interrupted.

The new surgical suite is now fully functional and Animal Services is pleased to announce that volunteer veterinarians will be able to assist in an efficient and comfortable environment.

Volunteer veterinarians spay and neuter dogs and cats for the animal shelter's adoption program with the goal of increasing the shelter's live release rate.

The Adoption Center provides more room to house potential pets than the prior facility.

The single staff veterinarian is responsible for the health of all sheltered animals and there are 10,000 - 11,000 that enter the shelter every year.

The assistance of volunteers that concentrate on spay/neuter maximizes the amount of animals made available to the public.

The shelter does not provide additional veterinarian services for owned pets.

Animals adopted from the shelter become the clients of the veterinarians in the community.

A description of the volunteer position along with the volunteer veterinarian application form may be found on the county website, www.pascocountyfl.net under the "Volunteer Opportunities" tab.
