Roadside panhandling banned in Pasco County, except Sundays

New Port Richey, Florida - It is now against the law to panhandle in Pasco County, except for Sundays.

The ban includes asking for money on the side of the road, selling newspapers, or collecting charity money.

Last week, Pasco County commissioners agreed with other communities in the Bay area in approving a new law dealing with the panhandle ban.

The ban includes any type of solicitation from rights-of-way on the major roads in the county.

There is a big difference, however, between ordinances in Hillsborough County and St. Petersburg in comparison with the Pasco law.

The law in Pasco holds an exception for Sundays.

On Sundays, according to officials, charities or firefighters may take that opportunity to collect funds, only if there's a quarter of normal traffic.

Pasco Commissioners gave the final go-ahead on the new law's second and final review with very little debate.

Their vote was a unanimous decision.
