Pasco County gets a new K-9 deputy

Pasco County, Florida -- There's a new deputy in Pasco today.

One of the four-legged variety

Tom Dobies donated a check for $7,300 to the Pasco Sheriff's office to buy a new dog named Oscar.

The one year old German Shepard is named after Dobies new wife's father. Dobies, who owns several funeral homes in the area, has paid for several other specially trained dogs for several agencies..

Oscar weighs 87 pounds and is the 8th K-9 to serve in the Pasco County Sheriff's office.

Deputies: Pasco man stole 3,000 pieces of mail

Pasco County, Florida -- One man's mail theft has affected nearly 1,000 Pasco County residents. 

Deputies arrested 30-year-old Brian Chipman Tuesday for allegedly digging through multiple mailboxes and stealing everything inside. The Pasco Sheriff's Office has gone through the stolen mail and are now realizing the full scope of the theft. 

Fugitive found, arrested after he and family fled state

Katy, Texas-- Officials have located and arrested the Pasco County fugitive who went missing, along with his wife and two children, out of New Port Richey last month. 

Garrett Bruce, his wife Jennifer and their sons, Brett and Dillon, went missing after reportedly ending all contact with close friends and family between the 10th and 12th of January. 

Part of westbound Bearss Avenue is closed

Tampa, Florida -- Both westbound lanes on Bearss Avenue between 22nd and 19th streets are temporarily closed while the Tampa Water Department repairs a water main.  

Barricades and signs are located in the area to assist with traffic flow and detours and drivers should seek alternate routes during this period. 

Repairs and restoration are expected to be completed by 3:30 p.m. on Friday, February 7.

Bond hearing in theater shooting to resume Friday

NEW PORT RICHEY, Florida -- A bond hearing for a former Tampa police captain charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of another man at a Wesley Chapel movie theater adjourned for the day around 6:40 p.m. Wednesday. The hearing will continue on Friday at 10 a.m. on whether to grant 71-year-old Curtis Reeves bail.

Reeves is accused of killing 43-year-old Chad Oulson after getting into an argument over texting in the Pasco County theater.

Hudson house fire was set to cover double murder

Hudson, Florida - The man who pulled a woman from her burning home said he was not surprised that the Pasco County Sheriff's Office ruled her death, and her roommate's death, a homicide.

"I looked at her face it looked like she had damage to her face. It looked like she maybe was abused or beaten," said a neighbor who only wants to be identified as "Joshua." "She had blood marks on her face."

Neighbors Jessica Keith and Amber Lynn Jordan moved into the home a few years ago.

FDLE chemist arrested for stealing drug evidence resigns

Escambia County, Florida-- A Florida Department of Law Enforcement chemist has resigned following allegations he swapped out prescription pain pills in a drug case for over-the-counter medication.

Joseph Graves, who worked for the agency as a crime lab analyst supervisor, submitted his letter of resignation on Monday afternoon. Tuesday evening, the FDLE announced he'd been arrested around 6:30 p.m. at the Escambia County Jail.
