Land O' Lakes Rec pool faces possible closure

Land O' Lakes, Florida -- The cooling pool waters at the Land O' Lakes Recreational Complex on Collier Parkway and Veterans Memorial Park in Hudson are heating up with talk of a possible closure this fall.

Pasco County is under tight budget constraints that may force the two county run pools to close in order to prevent laying off employees or shutting down other facilities.

The county's Parks and Recreation Department made the decision to recommend the closings at a recent board meeting after reviewing costs to keep the facilities open.

The pools are said to pull in $39,000 each year, but cost about $328,000 to operate and are in need of repairs totaling $100,000.

The parks department has lost more than 30 percent of its budget during the last three years, a total of $1.8 million cut.

The county run pools have been available for residents to swim and have been the main facility for dive and swim teams from local schools.
