Scallop season starts today!

Pasco County, Florida -- It’s that time of year again to unfurl the dive flag, put a mask on and head to the coast to collect some bay scallops.

The recreational season is open in Gulf of Mexico state waters (shore to 9 nautical miles) from the Pasco-Hernando county line to the west bank of the Mexico Beach Canal in Bay County starting July 1. The season will remain open through Sept. 24, with the first day of the closure on Sept. 25.

Land O' Lakes, Florida- Hey parents with kids out of school for the summer!

The Land O' Lakes Recreation Center has a wonderful opportunity for your child to participate in a week long Boys and Girls Basketball Camp!

There is one more session available from August 12-16 for any child ages 7-15 years old.

The cost is $75.00 which includes a camp t-shirt, instruction from Danny Delgardo, Head Basketball Coach at Trinity College with 20 years of experience as a Professional Athlete and Coach.

This is a great experience your child will have this summer!

Girls flag football camp

Girls flag football camp

Pasco County, Florida -- Starting in July Land 'O Lakes Recreation Complex will host a flag football camp for girls.

The camp will help develop the girls understanding of the game and fine tune skills associated with the game. Participants will learn individual techniques and team building skills in all phases of the game. 

The Elite Warrior Flag Football Camp will be led by the 2012 The Lutz Laker Coach of the Year and members of the 2013 Lady Warriors Varsity team.

On Thursday, June 20, a group is going to see the Salt Flat Snails that will come out in numbers after the summer rains. The group is meeting at Eagle Point Park at the western end of Trouble Creek Road at 6:00 p.m. 

Pasco Palms Preserve is located at 4466 Strauber Memorial Highway, New Port Richey.

Zephyrhills, Florida -- Long -time gardener Stan DeFreitas is encouraging families to eat healthier by growing their own vegetables. 

DeFreitas will be sharing growing tips and helping children to plant their own vegetables at the Walmart Supercenter on Saturday, June 15. 

The event will feature a number of games, crafts and giveaways, as well as free veggie snacks. 

DeFreitas is a well-known gardening expert and says okra, squash and peppers grow very well in Florida.

Paddling Pasco trip

Paddling Pasco trip

Pasco County, Florida -- Celebrate the holiday weekend by taking a 7 mile paddling trip on Sunday, May 26. 

 The trip is recommended for stronger paddlers that can maintain a 2-3 mile an hour pace for about 3+ hours with a couple of short breaks.

The trip goes through open water along a beautiful, pristine shallow mangrove lined coast.

The trip goes through Werner Boyce Salt Springs State Park and boats must be dropped off at Hudson beach by 9:00 a.m. Shuttles will bring paddlers back to their boats for launch.
