Land O' Lakes, FL -- The 2011 Atlantic Hurricane season is officially underway, and Pasco County is getting prepared.

In the event of a landfalling hurricane over Tampa Bay this season, Land O' Lakes residents have eight shelters within their community to seek refuge:

  • Odessa Elementary School, 1874 Ketzal Drive
  • Sunlake High School, 3023 Sunlake Blvd.
  • Oakstead Elementary School, 19925 Lake Patience Road
  • Pine View Elementary School, 5333 Parkway Blvd.
  • Connerton Elementary School, 9300 Flourish Drive
  • Denham Oaks Elementary, 1422 Oak Grove Blvd.
  • Seven Oaks Elementary, 27633 Mystic Oak Blvd.
  • Veterans Elementary School, 26940 Progress Parkway

Lutz, Florida -- East-West Animal Hospital is hosting a complimentary Seminar on Thunderstorm Phobia and Your Pet on Saturday June 11, 2011 at 10 a.m.  It will be presented by Linda Register, DVM, CVA.

The Seminar will last until 11:30 a.m. and will include the causes of thunderstorm and noise phobias in pets (diagnosis, treatments and preventative measures owners can do to minimize future fear and destructive behavior).  Please call ahead to reserve your spot as seating is limited.  Complimentary refreshments and snacks will be provided.

Wesley Chapel, FL -- This upcoming Saturday and Sunday, the 4th Annual "Celebration of the Arts" will be held at the Shops at Wiregrass.


Artists will be presenting pieces from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. on Sunday. 


Also, a number of bands and singers are lined up for music entertainment.

Red Cross continues to respond after 9 tornadoes destroy homes

The American Red Cross continues to provide food, clothing, comfort and safety to families throughout multiple counties after last Thursday's two violent storms spawned nine tornados, confirmed by the National Weather Service today. 

Neighbors have come together to help each other and are grateful for the support from the dozens of Red Cross staff and volunteers who continue to provide emergency assistance.

Red Cross Emergency Response Vehicles (ERV's) rolled through the streets of the areas affected by the storms, giving out food, water, and ensuring that everyone has a dry, safe place to stay.
